The pinnacle of the GEO series! With pioneering OZONE SharkNose technology and all of the design features that have boosted performance in our intermediate class wings, the Geo 5 is a few grams more than its predecessor but now features performance that is in line with the rest of our XC range.
The original Geo created a new class of paraglider – an accessible yet versatile wing for a wide range of pilots. As the series has progressed, the weight and pack volume has improved through improvement in light materials but also through the optimization of hundreds of construction details throughout the wing. But, most importantly, the real progress in the Geo series has been in the category of performance – and the Geo 5 is the pinnacle of the series. The Geo 5 is based on the Buzz Z5.
The Geo 5 features the same performance enhancing design features that have pushed our latest XC and Competition level wings to the top of their class. Most notably, the Geo 5 features the patented OZONE SharkNose profile and leading edge. The OZONE SharkNose has proven to be one of the most significant technological breakthroughs in our sport. It improves performance, solidity and handling characteristics at all angles of attack and airspeeds.
Aerodynamically, the Geo 5 profile and sail are very clean. It has been designed with the latest generation software to generate cells that are better aligned to the airflow, reducing profile drag and wing tip vortices. The sail has been further optimised with double 3D shaping for a cleaner leading edge and three extra cells for a better top surface – and a new internal structure and optimised line layout has allowed these three extra cells to be added without additional lines or increased wing weight.
The Geo 5’s aspect ratio remains the same. Increasing aspect ratio is a simple method of increasing performance, but leads to significant compromises in passive safety. Therefore, we do not believe in pushing this important design consideration. Instead, we have focused on reducing sail drag, optimising the line layout, reducing the overall line drag, and creating newly-shaped SharkNose cell openings to push performance to the top of the category without compromising safety. The performance enhancing features of the Geo 5 can be considered “free upgrades”, as they increase glide and speed without reducing passive safety.
The Geo 5 is designed to fly distances, and ball bearing pulleys in the accelerator system operate in a smooth and light manner for comfort on long XC flights. The top speed performance has been significantly improved by 0.5 LD at the same speed over the Geo 4.
The Geo series is designed for pilots who seek a highly versatile lightweight wing. It is suitable for a wide range of pilots from talented beginners to the most experienced. The minimum recommendation is 30-50 hours per year. More experienced pilots will appreciate the relaxing nature of the Geo 5 in active air, and the ease of launch – a real asset in the mountains.
